Playground fun

On Mother’s day, we went for a walk and then we took a really long nap.  It was the perfect day, because before that we went to brunch at French Meadow, which is my favorite place to eat.  Anyway, I finally brought my camera along.

1. The kids always eat 1/2 fruit & nut pancake and 1/2 cinnamon bagel each

2. I love the breakfast quesadilla

3. on the trail

4. -7. playground fun

8. self timer.

9. my apple tree in the spring.

momma’s sticking to resolutions.

I’ve been knitting, of course.

Here’s a coffee mug cozy I made for dh:

That was my first attempt at cabling.  It was easier than I thought.

I’ve also been on my detox.  Well, I am finished now.  It was just four days, but a gruesome four days. Kidding (kind of).  It went well; my ability to not munch on crap all day (like I normally do).  It was a great test of my will power.  To know you have control is quite empowering.  Funny how little things like having control over what you put in your mouth everyday keep your spirits strong.

Day one back into the swing of things (post detox) and I had pizza, cheesy tortillas, and chocolate.  I am so naughty.  So much for will power, right?  But I think how my intestines were wreaking havoc was exactly what I deserved.  And so, at dinner, I made spinach with almond crusted chicken (a healthy, detox friendly recipe) with a sprinkle of cheese on top.  I thought the kids were going to detest.  But, like I’ve said before, my kids aren’t normal kids.  Look what happened:

Before:

After:

Pretty impressive, right?

Anyway, the detox was a good start to tweaking my diet (and my kids’).  No more pizza and cheesy quesadillas.  Except on Fridays.  Because, well, that’s our tradition.  :D

Oh. Guess what.  I need a new pair of jeans.  I have a hole in the inner thigh.  Pooh. They’re my favorite jeans.  But I made a pledge to buy only handmade, recycled, or reused.  So, A-Ha, I had an idea!  Patch it.  I know you’re thinking, ‘duh. hello.’, but, hey, I used to buy new undies when laundry was overdue.  Okay, well, not recently, but there was a time.

I haven’t gotten out my handy dandy sewing machine in a while.  I was thinking of where to plug it when I remembered I had some iron on patches.  Niiiice.  I am TOTALLY sticking to my resolution. Yay me, I rock.

Here’s a shot of my inner thigh:

Lovely, isn’t it?

Momma’s amusement.

poor Mary.

poor baby Jesus.

poor lonely Nativity set without Mary or jesus :(

……….a little photo anecdote (not related to Charlie (the dog) attacking the Nativity set):

(days as a pseudo stay-at-home-mom(since I do work 12 hrs a week) are sooo amusing!)

Sushi party

I’ve had this sushi stationary for years and have talked about having a sushi party all that time.  Well, I finally did it.  Used the stationary as invites.  My mom helped me plan it and organize it. She said I have a wonderful life.  And she’s right.  Great kids, husband, dogs, and some super rad friends that make me laugh (and some even oblige when I say come in sushi eatin’ attire).  Good times, good times.  …note: these are all stay at home mamas; word to the motha that can partay!

ETA: here’s a pic of my mom and her special sushi dress (it’s kind of a whack pic, but I wish I would’ve taken a better pic of her dress.  She was beautiful.):

Time for grocery action…

I haven’t posted pics of my groceries for y’all in a while.  And who knows, maybe you think it’s weird.  For some reason, I really like documenting what I buy every week.  And now that I am reading The Gorgeously Green Diet, I feel the need to be super duper aware (how to live lean and green).  Oh, and if you haven’t read it, you should.  Makes the whole buying organic vs. non-organic make sense.

So, here are my groceries for the week: 94.00.  enjoy…..

p.s. one thing I’ve been trying to add to my daily diet/routine is a glass of lemon water every morning.  It’s supposed to flush out the system, especially the liver.  Hmm, you learn somn’ everyday.  and how easy is that!

Momma’s weekly shopping trip.

Another pic of my Trader Joes groceries.  Bill today was 101.08.  (It might have been cheaper if I hadn’t followed around a friend and spied what she bought.) (Oh, she knew I was looking, I am not that weird.)

mohawk.

You know what rocks?  Having a kid that rocks.  Check it out, yo!  My kid is a total bad ass, with a mohawk to prove it.

(Actually, I am surprised he let me do this to him, he usually insists on going to great clips, even for a trim.) (and yup, I did this.  Who’s next?  I charge…NOTHING!  It’s a great stress reliever shaving heads.  lol)

Groceries galore.

I just got home from Trader Joes.  I HEART Trader Joes!!!  But on to serious matters…I decided to take a picture of everything I bought today.  My bill was 108.00.  I bought all organic fruit (except bananas).  Do you think this is good for the money, or no?? (some things are double stacked, like the waffles and granola bars).  This will be a week’s worth of food.  Sample meals will be: eggplant parm., pizza, noodles and meatballs, tilapia, orange chicken.  Oh great, now I am hungry!  What should I eat?

Momma loves her lil’ girl.

Things that make me snort water through my nose when she says them:

*”yessssssss” (saying with two fists in the air.)

*”BUSTED” (where’d she get this?)

*”Momma, you rock.”  (My girl)

*”Oh no you didn’t.” (with a snap and a twist)

Being a momma totally rocks.

I chose to be a stay home momma about two years ago, the summer before my ds was off to first grade and my dd had just turned 18 months.  It was a decision that took much deliberation, and finally convinced myself (first) and my husband (second) that it didn’t make any sense to basically work to pay the sitter.  At the time, I was mid-career and making good money, but daycare for 2 kids was and I’m sure still is complete insanity.  I had never thought of myself being a stay home mom, even though I adore my kids.  I was kind of freaked out, to tell the truth.  I didn’t know ANYONE with kids!!!  But one of my biggest assets is that I like to plan.  And so I did.  And I researched.  and I planned some more.  And then I found….chat forums for moms online.  Whoohoo.  Now, I think this was about the greatest invention.  How else would I have met other moms?  I could have gone to the neighborhood play ground, which I did, but even though I consider myself an extrovert at times, I get nervous about approaching people I don’t know.  Besides, no one really goes to the play ground by my house.  So, you see, chat forums were my God send.  I went from knowing not a single person who had kids to having a calendar filled with play dates.  But the greatest thing is that I’ve met other mommas that aren’t the mom jeans wearing kind of peeps either, we just needed to find each other.  So I am a little sappy about it, whatevahhh.  The thing is that it’s kind of weird when people ask you how you met and you say “online.”  It just seems kind of creepy to say that, but it isn’t at all.  Anyway, I will be forever grateful to the information highway for introducing me to some great fellow mommas.  Cheers.
